Unique Brains

Practical IT and AI help,
from a person.

Not a helpdesk, not a subscription, and not a course you never finish. Someone who sits down with you, sorts the thing out, and shows you how it works so you are not stuck next time.

For individuals, sole traders, small businesses and community groups. In person around Wiltshire and the surrounding counties, or remotely anywhere in the UK.

Who this is for

Anyone who has been quietly getting on with it.

Most people are running their work on software nobody ever explained, held together by habit and a spreadsheet. That is not a failing, it is what happens when tools arrive faster than anyone has time to learn them.

At home

A machine that has got slow, files that are somewhere, a phone doing something new every month, and a reasonable suspicion that half of it could be simpler.

Running a small business

Quotes and invoices taking evenings, the same email typed for the four hundredth time, and no idea whether any of the AI everyone keeps mentioning is worth the bother.

Running a group or a venue

A committee on four different systems, a booking process held together by one person’s memory, and nobody with the time to sit down and fix it.

What I help with

Two things, mostly.

01

The computer side

Twenty five years of IT, and enough patience for the questions people are embarrassed to ask. There is no such thing as a stupid one, and I have heard all of them already.

  • Setting up machines, phones, backups and email properly
  • Getting your files somewhere you can actually find them
  • Websites, domains and the small things that break them
  • Security and passwords, done in a way you will keep doing
  • Teaching the software your work already runs on

02

The AI side

I do not sell AI as magic. Most of what gets claimed for it is noise. A few things it does genuinely well, and those few things can give a small operation back several hours a week.

  • Working out what is worth using and what is a waste of money
  • The writing jobs that eat the evening, done in minutes
  • Notes, transcripts, summaries and tidying up records
  • Practical training for a team, in your own tools
  • Knowing where it is wrong, which matters more than the rest

03

Or one specific job

Sometimes there is no training needed and there is just a thing that needs doing. That is fine, and it is often the cheapest way to work with me.

  • A defined job, quoted at a fixed price before it starts
  • Set up, handed over, and written down for whoever comes next
  • No retainer, no lock in, nothing you have to keep paying for

How it works

A phone call first, always.

  1. Fifteen minutes on the phone

Free. You describe the problem in whatever words you have for it. Quite often the answer is something you can do yourself in ten minutes, and if so I will just tell you.

  2. A price before anything starts

Either the hourly rate below, or a fixed price for the whole job. You will know what it costs before I begin, and it will not move afterwards.

  3. Sorted, and explained

The job gets done, and you get shown how it works in plain language. Written down if that helps. The aim is that you do not need me again for the same thing.

Nothing gets sold to you that you do not need. If a piece of software would do it better than I would, I will say so, even though that means less work for me.

Prices

On the page, where they belong.

No quote form, no discovery call to find out the number. If a fixed price for the whole job suits you better than an hourly rate, ask and I will quote it.

About

Adam Palk.

I have spent twenty five years somewhere between technology and people who had been left behind by it. Digital Inclusion Consultant with On the Line from 2021 to 2023. ICT training on the peer to peer programme at Brighton Housing Trust before that, working with people in housing crisis. Twenty years of running venues, teams and operations alongside all of it, so I know what it is to have a business to run and no time to learn another system.

The rest of what I do is specialist training for neurodivergent people at work, which is on the main part of this site. This page exists because the same skills are just as useful to everybody else, and because a lot of people need a hand with a computer without any of that being relevant to them.

I am good at two things. Teaching people technology, and making them feel safe enough to learn it. The second one is why the first one works.

Get in touch

Tell me what is not working.

A couple of lines is plenty, and it does not matter if you cannot describe it properly. Half of this job is working out what the problem actually is.

Happy to do the first fifteen minutes on the phone if writing it down is the hard part. Say so and I will call you.
